Overview
GAI Consultants is looking for a Civil Engineering Manager 1 to provide direction to the civil discipline, including delegation of tasks to engineering/drafting staff, preparation and checking of calculations, drawing development, preparation of deliverables, and budget tracking. The successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be to provide project and task leadership for siting, permitting, and documentation efforts relating to electric transmission projects in North Carolina. The role requires coordination with Project Managers and other discipline leads within GAI.
Responsibilities
- Staff management: plan, mentor, coach, and delegate tasks to junior level engineering drafting and field staff.
- Task management: plan and manage staff budgets/schedules, scope change management, quality assurance/peer reviews, report writing, client coordination.
- Prepare proposals including scope and budget development and interdisciplinary coordination.
- Draft site reports, design narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums.
- Collaborate with engineering leads for resource and schedule management and performance of QA/QC peer reviews.
- Conduct field condition assessments and independently perform bid and construction phase services, such as responding to bidder questions, contractor RFI and submittal reviews, site visits, and verifying change order documentation.
- Perform projects managed by other engineering leads.
- Lead, train, and supervise staff on field visits to client sites to obtain photos, physical measurements, inspect site conditions, and perform infiltration testing.
- Work independently and direct/oversee engineering and drafting staff on a project basis.
Requirements
- Minimum 12 years of experience, including knowledge of NPDES permitting requirements and construction practices.
- Proficiency with GIS, AutoCAD, HY-8, Pondpack, Hydraflow, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and related engineering software.
- B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in multiple states (reciprocity).
- Driver’s license.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work at heights over 25 ft. Must wear and work in personal protective equipment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across engineering disciplines.
- Capability to lead or manage moderate to major projects and apply advanced engineering concepts.
