Responsibilities
The Chief Probation/Parole Officer (CPPO) supervises Probation/Parole Officers, Judicial Services Coordinators, and clerical staff. The CPPO coordinates and manages the unit’s workflow to ensure effective implementation of Community Supervision goals and strategies, handling daily operations, making decisions about offender supervision, managing case assignments, workflow coordination, scheduling, time tracking, and staff training. The CPPO addresses discipline, conflicts, and complaints, oversees team staffing, and evaluates employee performance. The role frequently involves crisis interventions and requires a flexible schedule that includes regular 8‑5 hours and 24/7 availability for emergency calls. It may involve an active caseload with second‑shift or emergency response duties, including on‑call status for EHA violations.

- Identify offenders’ needs and provide effective supervision with swift, consistent responses to noncompliance.
- Maintain calm and rational composure during difficult situations.
- Build and sustain working relationships with officers, offenders, judicial officials, law enforcement, community agencies, and co‑workers.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
Qualifications
Must possess the following:
- Certified annually with a firearm and unarmed self‑defense; complete CPR annually and be ready for exposure to O.C. Pepper Spray as part of training.
- Reside within 30 miles of the county of assignment within 90 days of start date.
- Salary range: $50,088 – $87,654 (based on qualifications and experience).

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Four years of experience as a North Carolina Probation/Parole Officer.
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
