AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the cloud.

Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Chief Engineer
As the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operates at peak efficiency. This includes planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emerging issues. You serve as the expert technical resource, reporting to the Data Center Facility Manager and collaborating with Engineering Operations Technicians and third‑party vendors. You are the single focal point for all facility operations in the data center, ensuring equipment maintains better than 99.999% uptime.
You will manage small‑to‑medium impacting projects from conception to completion, collaborating with engineering, automation, processing, and finance teams locally and globally. You will drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs.
The role also involves directing, training, and supporting Engineering Operations Technicians in troubleshooting and operations of equipment such as stand‑by diesel generators, switchgear, UPS, PDU, AHU, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Operate independently with limited direct management
- Act as an escalation point for all facilities‑related issues within the data center, escalating to the Data Center Facility Manager as needed
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
- Troubleshoot and report facility and data center‑level events within internal SLA
- Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams
- Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians
- Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staff
- Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows
- Communicate complex technical information to a non‑technical audience
Basic Qualifications
- Industrial or Data Center field related Engineering
- 10+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment
- Engineering Degree in Electrical or Mechanical
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Solid leadership and organizational skills
- Data Center or other critical facility experience with minimum 8 years
