Organizational Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Secretariat for the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) in Paris. The CCAC is a global partnership focused on integrated climate and air quality solutions, reducing short-lived climate pollutants. The CCAC's "Clean Air Flagship" aims to improve well-being, slow climate change, and maximize co-benefits through strengthened capacity in air quality management.

Job Purpose

This role will develop comprehensive Sectoral Guidance on clean Non-Road Machinery and Stationary Engines, providing practical recommendations for program design and implementation. The expert will identify successful initiatives for replication and scale-up, contributing to the CCAC's mission to improve air quality and reduce climate impact. The guidance will be hosted on the Air Quality Management Exchange Platform (AQMx), serving as a key resource for governments and stakeholders globally, particularly in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. The role supports UNEP's efforts to advance integrated air quality and climate planning and action.

Responsibilities

Develop approximately 8,000 words of Sectoral Guidance on clean Non-Road Machinery and Stationary Engines, offering concrete recommendations for program design and implementation. Identify at least 30 supporting resources (reports, publications, databases, tools) for the AQMx Resource Exchange Library. Conduct consultations with relevant stakeholders to ensure accuracy and relevance. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation and key messages to support the launch of the guidance. The guidance will cover impacts, data needs, implementation steps, business models, financing, socio-economic equity, gender, inclusion, and successful case studies, with a focus on solutions for Low- and Middle-Income Countries.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of professional/scientific experience related to Non-Road Vehicles and Stationary Engines is required. This includes experience in research, practical implementation, or understanding of clean technologies in projects, ideally with government collaboration. Demonstrated experience with business models and report preparation in this sector is also necessary.

Expertise in Non-Road Vehicles and Stationary Engines. Experience in research and working in developing countries. Ability to produce clear, accessible scientific and technical reports. Experience in preparing and delivering presentations. Understanding of business models and financing for clean technologies.
