Board Director, Global Youth Education & Fundraising
Culturewise Youth is looking for experienced nonprofit leaders to join our Board of Directors.
Culturewise Youth (CWY) builds intercultural educational experiences connecting young people across Mali, France, and the United States — working with communities, not about them.
We're transitioning from a seed organization into a growing startup nonprofit, and we're looking for experienced board members who can help us reach our next level. We're especially seeking people with backgrounds in:
Nonprofit governance
— helping set direction, strategy, and oversight as we scale
Fundraising & donor relations
— leveraging networks to build sustainable funding
Nonprofit leadership
— including candidates open to officer roles (President, Treasurer, Secretary, VP) as we build out our leadership team
What it means to serve as a Director
Help set organizational direction, strategy, and long-term vision
Oversee governance and regulatory compliance
Represent and speak on behalf of Culturewise Youth at events
Actively and independently network and fundraise on our behalf
Participate in our Teal/self-managed culture — collaborative, transparent, and non-hierarchical
Stepping into leadership We're specifically looking for people ready to step into a leadership role on the board and help carry us to our next level. This means being willing to train and mentor others within the organization in what you know, and taking on responsibility for the success of our mission as though you were a founder — because at this stage, you are one.
Requirements
A significant financial commitment — through personal giving and/or donations solicited from your network
A 3‑year term commitment, with 4–10 hours/month including board meetings
Prior nonprofit board, officer, or leadership experience
French and English fluency preferred but not required (English is required)
This role is best suited to people who care deeply about our mission — not those seeking personal gain or visibility, as that motivation won't sustain the level of independent effort this role requires.
