Behavioral Health Counselor

High Point Medical Center – 601 N Elm St, High Point, NC

$64,000 (Base salary)

Pay Range: $30.70 – $46.05 per hour

Full‑time, 36 hours per week (12‑hour shifts, Friday–Sunday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Patient Assessment: complete accurate clinical assessments, identify key findings, and determine level of care.
• Client Communication: verify patients’ needs, explain benefits of treatment, respond promptly and empathetically to inquiries.
• Clinical Evaluation: assess psychosocial stressors using GAF scales, determine severity, consult with physicians/psychiatrists when needed.
• Family Involvement: educate families, provide aftercare referrals, address co‑dependency dynamics, obtain family histories.
• Admissions: obtain physician authorization, verify insurance/financial eligibility, maintain knowledge of payment policies.
• Communication: provide clear, concise, courteous information to patients, families and staff.
• Customer Focus: deliver excellent customer service and maintain therapeutic relationships.
• Teamwork: promote a positive work environment, attend required meetings and in‑services.
• Referrals: make effective referrals to community resources for continued treatment.
• Professionalism: uphold professional relationships and adhere to department rules and standards of behavior.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Good judgment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to quickly assess patient needs and confirm them verbally
• Ability to clearly explain benefits of treatment programs
• Knowledge of developmental stages from age six to 65+ (preferred)
• Broad knowledge of DSM‑IV diagnoses and treatment modalities
• Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy (accredited)
• License in Social Work or Counseling in the applicable state

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, manipulate objects with hand dexterity, talk, hear, and see.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 20 lbs (maximum), 50 lbs (maximum), 100 lbs (maximum).
