Barclays Europe Product Controller – Trading Balance Sheet and P&L

Purpose of the role

To oversee the financial aspects of trading activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the bank's trading book, compliance with regulatory requirements, and provision of insights into trading performance.

Accountabilities

• Reconcile daily profit and loss (P&L) figures for trading desks to ensure alignment with valued positions in the trading book.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies between P&L figures to reflect true economic value of the trading portfolio.
• Support identification, assessment, and mitigation of trading risks; report financial risks to senior colleagues.
• Maintain and analyze trading data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency; provide insights to traders and senior colleagues.
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports to authorities; support external audits and address auditor queries.
• Effectively communicate complex financial information to traders, risk professionals, senior colleagues, and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to coordinate trading activities.

Assistant Vice President Expectations

Provide strategic guidance, influence decision making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions and business divisions, lead teams, set objectives, coach employees, and demonstrate leadership behaviours (Listen, Energise, Align, Develop). The role may also include individual contributor responsibilities such as guiding team members, identifying new directions, consulting on complex issues, mitigating risk, developing policies, and strengthening controls.

Key Accountabilities (Barclays Europe Product Controller AVP)

• Serve as key point of accountability for PC controls and services across Barclays Europe Markets & Banking portfolios.
• Manage and run daily P&L reporting and commentary for trading desks in Barclays Europe.
• Address queries from traders and infrastructure partners related to trading revenue and balance sheet.
• Partner with trading teams on initiatives, including building Barclays Europe’s Markets businesses.
• Drive insightful analysis of financial and control metrics; review weekly and monthly reporting to senior management and regulators.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

Represent Product Control in interactions with senior traders and key stakeholders. Establish close working relationships with Product Control teams in the US, London, and Chennai, and with wider Barclays Europe Finance teams in Dublin and elsewhere.

Essential Skills / Basic Qualifications

• Strong interest in trading strategies, financial products, and markets.
• Appetite and proven ability to learn new skills.
• Solid understanding of French GAAP and basic IFRS accounting rules.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
• Comfortable presenting to traders and senior stakeholders.

Desirable Skills / Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of IFRS accounting rules.
• Previous experience in a financial services function at a top‑tier organisation.
• Experience working in cross‑functional teams across multiple business areas, functions, and locations.
• Assessment may include skills in risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job‑specific technical skills.

Minimum Salary

€56,000 per annum (base salary). Additional compensation and benefits may apply.
