Backend Engineer
Join a game development studio where you’ll play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance and scalability of online game services. You will work at the intersection of backend systems and infrastructure, helping deliver reliable persistent worlds that support thousands of concurrent players.
About the role You will be responsible for both backend development and infrastructure operations, ensuring smooth game performance and high availability across production environments. This includes building internal monitoring tools, maintaining server systems and supporting optimisation efforts. You will also contribute to web and front‑end tools used internally and externally, making this a versatile engineering role.
What you’ll do
Design and develop internal monitoring tools to track server health in real time
Operate and maintain production servers including web, database and matchmaking systems
Optimise backend services for performance across CPU, memory and bandwidth usage
Collaborate with game teams to implement metrics and improve server performance
Build and maintain web interfaces for internal tools and external services
Develop responsive and user‑friendly front‑end solutions for tools and dashboards
Support infrastructure reliability and scalability across online game environments
What we’re looking for
Experience6+ years of professional development experience
At least 3 years in the video game industry or similar real‑time environments
Experience managing online game servers or large‑scale backend systems
Skills
Strong software development skills in one or more languages
Experience with modern front‑end frameworks
Strong understanding of Linux environments and command‑line tools
Solid database knowledge (SQL and/or No
SQL), including optimisation and maintenance
Understanding of cloud concepts such as scalability, networking and virtualization
Ability to design and maintain reliable, scalable backend systems
Nice to have
Experience building internal developer tools or monitoring solutions
Familiarity with multiple cloud platforms
Background in live‑service or multiplayer game environments
Working style / behaviours
Autonomous and able to prioritise work in dynamic environments
Versatile and adaptable across backend, infrastructure and tooling tasks
Strong team player working across technical and non‑technical teams

Employment type: Full‑time
