Structural Repairs Expert

Position: Structural Repairs Expert in the Structures Fleet Support Department.

Responsibilities

  • Providing Advanced Structural Repair Support: Leveraging extensive experience and technical expertise to address complex structural repair matters, including devising innovative solutions for both minor and major repairs requested by customers, ensuring high standards of safety and reliability.
  • Case Investigation: Utilizing a deep understanding of historical damage and repair scenarios to investigate and identify the existence of similar previous cases, ensuring consistent, well-informed support and enhancing the efficiency of problem resolution processes.
  • Customer and Stakeholder Liaison: Employing communication skills to effectively liaise with customers and internal stakeholders, managing the entire support query lifecycle from initial receipt to complete resolution with transparency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
  • Development of Generic Repair Procedures: Assisting in creating and refining generic repair procedures based on an in-depth knowledge of recurring structural issues, aimed at streamlining repair processes, reducing downtime, and enhancing overall operational efficiency of the ATR fleet.
  • Contribution to Fleet Operations: Playing a critical role in enhancing the safety and economic operations of the ATR fleet by providing customers with highly efficient and timely structural repair and engineering services, informed by a thorough understanding of fleet operations and structural integrity requirements.
  • Design Organization Engagement: Actively participating in Design Organization activities by preparing and releasing critical approval documents (such as Technical Adaptation and Structural Repair Approval Sheets) under Part21J delegation, ensuring that all structural modifications and repairs meet stringent regulatory and safety standards.
  • Team Guidance and Mentorship: Providing guidance, advice, and mentorship to the team of engineers, sharing knowledge, and ensuring the team is well-equipped to handle both short-term and long-term structural repair projects.
  • Cross-functional Expertise: Applying a transversal approach to address all structural repair topics, both long-term and short-term, facilitating effective management and integration of diverse repair issues across projects.
  • Knowledge Exchange and Professional Development: Actively participating in knowledge exchange with peers in the aeronautical field, attending and presenting at conferences, engaging in internal discussions, and contributing to professional forums to stay abreast of the latest industry developments and innovations.
  • Frequent Interactions: Engaging with customers, the stress office, repair drawing team, and other ATR departments (customer support, spares engineering, safety, quality, etc.).
  • Damage Assessment Missions: Leading on-site damage assessment missions to evaluate the structural integrity of in-service aircraft subjected to severe damage scenarios, such as engine fires, hard landings, runway excursions, and ground collisions, determining the extent of damage and required repair strategies.
  • On-site Technical Support: Providing hands‑on technical support during major repairs and/or replacements, whether performed by customers or ATR Working Parties, ensuring repairs are carried out correctly, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant standards and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree (Bac +5) in aeronautical structures or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience, with at least 6 years in aircraft structure stress analysis or repair; demonstrated expertise in complex structural repair and support with a track record of successful problem‑solving in high‑pressure situations.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in aircraft structures (preferably ATR structures).
    • Expertise in aircraft structural repair principles (both metallic and composite).
    • In‑depth knowledge of metallic and composite materials.
    • Familiarity with non‑destructive testing methods.
    • Knowledge of Leonardo/Airbus drawings is a plus.
  • Language Skills:
    • Proficiency in English (B2 level).
    • Italian is a plus.
  • IT Skills:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
    • Familiarity with ATR IT tools (CRM, SAMONIT, GILDA) is advantageous.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Autonomous and rigorous with strong organizational skills.
    • Open‑minded, positive thinking, and an excellent team player.
    • Strong customer orientation, with the ability to understand and anticipate customer needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Specific Constraints: Participation in standing‑by duties during evenings, nights, and weekends.
