Location: Cardiff, UK

As an Associate Manager DevTest (Biometrics) in Cardiff, you will help drive the team formation, implementation and maintenance of a robust CI/CD pipeline within HID PACS by supporting the CI/CD Manager.

This is a wide‑range role, bridging the functions of the DevOps and QA Validation teams.

Qualified candidates will drive the development of a sustainable DevTest framework, deliver a scalable CI/CD‑ready test environment, and eliminate manual smoke/EVT testing through full automation.

  • Works on issues where analysis of situation or data requires review of relevant factors.
  • To prepare complete project documents.
  • Designs and conduct experiments, and analyses and interprets data.
  • Formulates plans and solves problems.
  • Provides mentoring to more junior staff.
  • Assists the CI/CD Manager deliver the DevTest vision.

Primary Duties (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Able to design and implement a wide range of testing techniques to support a scalable and automated CI/CD environment.
  • Monitor and triage CI/CD pipeline test failures.
  • Design, build and documentation of new CI/CD infrastructure for new features.
  • Able to identify and liaise with external teams to identify test gaps.
  • Able to communicate test results to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Able to project manage and use technical leadership to achieve a team result.
  • Contributes to project and product planning discussions.
  • Understands how the product under test operates as part of a wider system.
  • Able to liaise with the Program team prior to feature development to flesh out requirements for new tests.
  • Plans and scopes for new functionality test requirements.
  • Able to make decisions regarding the Test Environment.
  • Coaches / mentors others at a technical level.
  • Able to raise defects with the business and help prioritize them based on severity.
  • Able to research, plan and train others within the team.
  • Actively contribute to customer escalations.
  • Champions TDD methodology and leads stakeholders in its implementation.

Essential Qualifications (This role is wide‑scope; not all skills required)

  • Engineering degree or equivalent or suitable experience.
  • Minimum of +5 years of related industry experience.
  • Prior experience with designing and carrying out device testing, embedded firmware testing, software testing, or other related testing and test automation experience.
  • Familiarity with software installation and configuration in Windows and Linux environments.
  • Ability to install and configure computer hardware components and establish connections to local area networks and back‑end processing systems.
  • Experience with SQL DB queries to validate software recording proper data and ensure participant data ingested properly prior to testing.
  • Experience in scripting (Bash, Groovy, PowerShell, Python, etc.).
  • Ability to write complex coded test solutions in languages such as C#, Java, etc.
  • Familiar with software testing tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Test Café, etc.
  • Experience with test automation tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, TestStand, TestComplete, Travis CI, CircleCI, Spacelift, AWS CodePipeline, or Azure/Bitbucket Pipelines.
  • Experience with tracking software development using Jira or other similar programs.
  • Experience of Agile and Lean Methodologies.
  • Experience of Artifactory and Nexus repositories along with Maven and NuGet artifacts management.
  • Able to specify, design and produce physical test systems – outsourcing where necessary.
  • Knowledge of various test development methodologies such as DDT, BDD, TDD, Acceptance Testing, Unit Testing and Performance/Reliability Testing.
  • Should have experience of Systems Integration testing, including End‑2‑End testing.
  • Does not require previous leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of testing Java applications using JUnit, TestNG, Mockito, and DBUnit.
  • NUnit test framework.
  • Familiar with Jenkins, NUnit, .Net and scripting.
  • Mercurial and/or Bitbucket version control.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy Protocol.
  • UART, I2C and SPI protocols.
  • Experience with Secure Elements, RFID, NFC, HCE or Bluetooth technologies is a plus.

  • Travel and fieldwork, including international travel may be required; employee must possess, or be able to acquire, a valid passport.
