Job Summary

This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The European Union's bank offers the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment and provides relocation support. It seeks to recruit an Associate Lawyer specialised in Data Protection in its Legal Directorate, Legal Corporate Department, and Procurement and Administrative Law Division. This is a full‑time temporary position at grade 4 with a contract term until .

Panel interviews are anticipated for July 2026.

Purpose

Provide legal support for the administration on Data Protection matters to ensure regulatory compliance with the EU Data Protection Regulation and EIB internal regulations. The role involves activities of varying complexity and recurrence (e.g. advice to data controllers) as well as the handling of sophisticated and complex legal issues.

Accountabilities

  • Draft and negotiate personal data protection clauses in a wide range of agreements entered into by the EIB (e.g. with service providers, donors, borrowers, and grant recipients)
  • Draft and review personal data‑related provisions in EIB policies
  • Assist data controllers with personal data issues arising during contract implementation, including contract amendments
  • Advise on personal data matters that may give rise to liability for the EIB, including requests or complaints from data subjects under the EU Data Protection Regulation
  • Support data controllers in drafting privacy statements and complying with other EU DPR obligations, EDPS guidelines, and EU institutions’ practices, including reviewing records of processing activities submitted to the DPO
  • Act as a Data Protection Coordinator in the Legal Directorate, liaising with the EIB’s DPO as needed
  • Cooperate actively with the Procurement team, Technical Assistance officers and Administrative Law officers and other services within the Bank, taking a solution‑focused approach
  • Take part in legal research and studies on issues of law arising in connection with the division’s tasks and competencies
  • Keep up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation, regulations and jurisprudence pertaining to the tasks and competencies of the division
  • Develop and maintain relationships within the Bank and represent the EIB externally

Qualifications

  • University degree in Law (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor, preferably a Master)
  • Professional legal qualification in an EU member state or England and Wales is an advantage
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in law with a focus on data protection, preferably acquired in the in‑house legal team of an EU, public or international institution, or with a law firm of international reputation
  • Expertise in drafting and negotiating legal documentation in English
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; a good knowledge of French is an advantage
