About the team:A leading competition practice embedded in a global network.

The Paris EU and Competition department advisesorganisations from the private and public sectors on both domestic andcross-border transactions and on all aspects of French and EUcompetition law.

The team has specific expertise in regulated industries anddeals with complex abuse of dominant position cases as well assectorial regulation issues.

Now part of Ashurst Perkins Coie following the firmcombination, the Paris team works seamlessly with London-basedeconomists, enabling economic analysis at the earliest stage ofcompetition assessments.

About the role:The Competition team in the Paris office isseeking an associate with three to five years' post-qualificationexperience in competition law, gained within an international lawfirm, a top-tier firm in the Paris market, or a competitionauthority (Autorité de la concurrence, European Commission, DGCompetition). The firm is seeking a candidate holding a postgraduate law degree (Master 2 orequivalent), ideally with a specialisation in competition law, EUbusiness law or economic law. A complementary qualification such asan LLM from a leading university will be considered a significant advantage.

The associate will join a dynamic team and work under thedirect supervision of the department's partners on complex,high-profile cross-border matters, spanning the full range of thedepartment's activities:In the area of merger control, theassociate will participate in the preparation and filing ofnotifications before the French Competition Authority (Autorité dela concurrence), the European Commission and other competitionauthorities worldwide. The role involves conducting competitiveassessments of M&A transactions, drafting submissions andresponses to authority questionnaires, and assisting in thenegotiation and implementation of behavioural or structural remedies.

In the area of anti-competitivepractices, the associate will assist clients in connection withinvestigations and proceedings initiated by competitionauthorities, including leniency applications, settlementprocedures and contentious proceedings before the relevant courts.

The associate will also participate in competition complianceaudits and the design and implementation of compliance programmes.

In an advisory capacity, the associatewill draft legal memoranda and opinions on a wide range of Frenchand EU competition law issues, including distribution agreements,pricing practices, information exchanges between competitors, andvertical and horizontal restrictions.

The candidate must demonstrate strong analytical anddrafting skills in both French and English. Fluency in legal Englishis essential, as all matters handled by the department have asignificant international dimension. The ability to work autonomouslywhile integrating seamlessly into a multidisciplinary andmulticultural team is critical, along with intellectual rigour, a keensense of organisation and the capacity to manage multiple matterssimultaneously under tight deadlines.
