Summary

SESI Consulting Engineers is seeking an Assistant Project Engineer for its Site/Civil Department. The role involves designing commercial, residential, mixed‑use, and industrial developments in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and update engineering documents such as reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and design plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software.
  • Analyze soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data using reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and tests to assess impacts on project planning and design.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state (New Jersey and New York), and federal permitting regulations.
  • Work in the field as necessary and be available Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Some supervisory responsibilities are included in this position.

Qualifications

  • Ability to review and understand plans, specifications, reports, and drawings including site grading, utilities, foundation details, structural drawings, and regulatory documents.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; 4–8 years of relevant professional experience in site/civil design, site planning, grading, stormwater management, and erosion control.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, multi‑tasking, and sound judgment.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Proven ability to follow direction and collaborate within a team.
  • FE/EIT certification required; PE desired.
  • Familiarity with tools and software such as NitroPro, GSLOPE, KeyWall, Rocscience, MS Word, Excel, Adobe, and auto‑system tools.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts, solve problems, and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Tools and Equipment

  • Lump hammer, shovel, hand auger, nuclear density gauge, and related field instruments.

Physical Demands

Stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers to handle items, reach, climb, and balance. Frequently lift or move objects up to 50 pounds. Vision required for close, distance, and focus adjustments. Noise level usually low to moderate.

Work Environment

Approximately 25% of work is conducted outdoors, requiring ability to work in all weather conditions. Field work may expose employees to sun, wind, insects, plants, and animals. Appropriate outdoor clothing, safety gear, and safety boots are required. Remaining work is typically in an office setting.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary $75,000–$95,000, mileage reimbursement, benefits, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, professional development assistance, 401(k), and bonus potential.
