Founded in 1843, IMT Mines Alès currently has 1,400 students (including 250 international students) and 380 staff members. The school has three high-level scientific and technological research and teaching centers, working in the fields of materials and civil engineering (C2MA), the environment and risk (CREER), and artificial intelligence and industrial and digital engineering (CERIS). You will be joining CERIS , which is home to two research units: the SyCoIA (Complex Systems and Artificial Intelligence) unit, and the EuroMov Digital Health in Motion (EuroMov DHM) unit.

Teaching Activities

  • Participate in the engineering school’s teaching activities (general education, apprenticeship, doctoral programs, master’s degrees, and specialized master’s degrees);
  • Design and teach courses in artificial intelligence, particularly in deep learning and reinforcement learning;
  • Supervise research projects and internships, and mentor apprentices;
  • Contribute to the school’s educational activities (examination committees, thesis defenses, tutoring, and project supervision);
  • Deliver some courses in English using active learning methods.

Research Activities

  • Conduct research on topics related to deep learning, reinforcement learning, the integration of machine learning and operations research, robust AI, trustworthy AI, and explainable AI;
  • Contribute to the research efforts of the CORTEX project, dedicated to the development of trustworthy, robust, and human-centered AI;
  • Design AI methods that address the challenges of robustness, explainability, trust, and uncertainty management.

Technology Commercialization and Transfer Activities

  • Commercialize research activities through scientific publications, conferences, and participation in research networks in the field;
  • Contribute to efforts to promote the MACMIA project to industrial partners, to the development of new partnerships, and to the preparation of research contracts and funding proposals;
  • Provide scientific leadership and coordination for research projects in collaboration with contractual partners (leading the project team, monitoring objectives, and communication);
  • Contribute to the transfer and commercialization of research results by supporting companies and the school’s incubator in developing innovations and creating spin-offs.

The position requires proven experience in teaching and research in the Center’s areas of focus. The candidate must be proficient in scientific English, develop collaborative research projects, promote their work to academic and industrial partners, and demonstrate an interest in issues related to artificial intelligence. International experience is preferred.

The evaluation criteria are:

Required degree: Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field, with a strong specialization in machine learning.

The exercise of leadership responsibilities, organizational activities, and participation in consultative and decision-making bodies are also taken into account in the evaluation criteria.

Specific Requirements

Recruitment is open in the field of “Computer Science/Machine Learning.”

The position offered by IMT Mines Alès is a 24-month, full-time, fixed-term contract under public law, governed by the management framework of the Institut Mines-Télécom, job category C, Associate Professor, Category II.

The position will be based at IMT Mines Alès; however, travel as part of the MACMIA project should be expected.
