Overall Responsibilities

  • Managing the accounting department on a day-to-day basis
  • Be responsible for the development of career potential of the departmental staff by developing and maintaining an environment that emphasizes training, education, and process improvements
  • Maintains a strong accounting & operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability and manage business risks.
  • Ensure compliance with Marriott International Policies (MIPs) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Local Standard Operating Procedures (LSOPs).
  • Advise the Director of Finance on existing and evolving operating/financial issues.
  • Support the DOF as financial leader for the business unit including the preparation of financial statements, operational reporting and maintenance of a strong control environment
  • Support the implementation of the property’s annual business plan
  • Development of the annual operating budget for the property and provide analytical support during budget review
  • Maintain current knowledge of local legislation and ensure business compliance
  • Share forecast information with operations team to enable them to react to changes in the business.
  • Attend critique meetings to review information with management team
  • Provide forecast information to Director of Finance in a timely manner
  • Communicate financial concepts in a clear and persuasive manner that is easy to understand and drives desired behaviours.

Essential Job Functions

General Accounting

  • Maintains uniform accounting procedures for recurring and routine transactions
  • Identifies/implements process engineering for new programs and troubleshoots problematic transactions
  • Maintains balance sheet accountability and ensure all balance sheet reconciliations are accurate and performed in a timely manner
  • Ensure use of correct chart of accounts (to include local GAAP accounts)
  • Support the development of annual budget, monitor performance against budget, prepare forecasts and analyse significant variances
  • Manages the cost allocations between MVCI and HOA
  • Functions as consultant on financial matters for the Management team

Reporting

  • Support and supervise period close, establish cut-off in compliance with corporate deadlines, analyse pre-close results, approve required adjustments
  • Ensure that the P&L and A&L accounts are accurate
  • Develops site specific reports as required
  • Help in the coordination of the annual HOA audit
  • Distribute and discuss period reports with Management team as required

Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Review procedures with accounting and other associates to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency
  • Ensure adherence to controls over inventories, other assets, incentives, procurements, payables, and receivables

Others

  • Partake in the Manager on Duty Schedule
  • Develop and/or enhance financial management skills within the management team through coaching and training sessions
  • Create a working environment that enables detection and retention of top talent and where individuals perform at their best
  • Conduct the associate performance appraisal process, providing feedback as needed
  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with associates and ensures associates do the same within the team
  • Actively solicits associates' feedback, utilizes an open door policy and reviews associates satisfaction results to identify and address associates problems or concerns
  • Celebrates success and publicly recognizes the contributions of team members
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs
