Assets Protection Team Leader

The starting pay range for this position per hour is $20.75 - $22.75. The full pay range for this position per hour is $20.75 - $35.25.

Pay is based on several factors including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications. In addition to pay, Target offers a range of benefits such as health coverage, 401(k), employee discounts, paid time off, and other contributions to support you and your family.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead a security culture, including crisis response, safety environment, and crowd management.
  • Implement daily/weekly Assets Protection workload priorities to support business goals.
  • Respond to external and internal theft incidents and prevent future theft.
  • Implement strategic resolutions of external theft and fraud and apprehend individuals attempting to cause loss.
  • Partner, educate, and support store business leaders on operational shortage priorities.
  • Lead a team of hourly team members, interviewing, developing, evaluating, and retaining talent.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Deliver guest experience commitments to create an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience.
  • Ensure each team member is trained and consistently delivers on Target’s guest experience commitments and operations.
  • Observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing positive guest moments.
  • Review area guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action to improve, align team behaviors, celebrate wins, and drive results.
  • Support total store sales and profitability by ensuring products are in stock and available.
  • Influence and validate physical security and safety processes; participate in-store response and emergency crisis situations; create security plans for in-store events.
  • Support your line leader in educating teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures.
  • Develop, coach, and lead team members to elevate their skills and expertise.
  • Anticipate staffing needs and support talent planning around accountability.
  • Identify theft and shortage trends in your store.
  • Identify shortage risks in key areas and support leaders in developing tactics to reduce shortage and drive profitable sales.
  • Work a schedule that aligns with guest and business needs based on security and theft patterns.
  • Own prevention, identification, and resolution of external theft incidents; resolve theft using good judgment and conduct apprehensions while adhering to policy.
  • Initiate, investigate, and resolve internal investigations as directed.
  • Educate store leadership on merchandise protection best practices and audit execution in partnership with key partners.
  • Implement and follow up on operational changes directed by your line leader.
  • Order merchandise protection devices as needed; review budget and adhere to guidance.
  • Communicate AP priorities to the team, peers, and leadership.
  • Build relationships of trust and accountability with your leader and Store Director.
  • Maintain relationships inside and outside Target, including district and store leaders and law enforcement.
  • Ensure our teams and tactics maintain Target’s reputation.
  • Collaborate with retail organization partners to analyze industry trends and enhance security.
  • Evaluate and recommend candidates for open positions; develop a guest‑centric team.
  • Support team onboarding and learning; close knowledge and skill gaps through training.
  • Lead a culture of ethical conduct and compliance; hold team accountable to expectations.
  • Maintain all required training.
  • Serve as first responder for in‑store safety incidents (e.g., security, weather), executing procedures and best practices.
  • Lead and demonstrate a culture of best practices through onboarding and skill development.
  • Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and creating equitable experiences.
  • Model a safety culture through training, hazard identification, and incident response.
  • Execute safety program management routines such as Monthly Safety Meetings and Observations.
  • Participate in legal proceedings to represent Target’s interests.
  • Model execution of physical security processes to enhance in‑store security culture.
  • Support merchandise protection strategies across the store.
  • Address store needs (emergency, regulatory visits, etc.).
  • All other duties as needed based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Meet state or local licensure and/or legal requirements for the position.
  • Previous retail and/or loss prevention experience preferred.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and technology equipment.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude.
  • Effective communication skills.

Additional Physical and Operational Requirements

  • Access all areas of the building.
  • Interpret instructions, reports, and information.
  • Climb up and down ladders.
  • Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays; reliable attendance required.
  • Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
