Art Buying Director

• Drive projects forward with strong, original ideas, consistently seeking out non-obvious talent that fits the brand's aesthetic.
• Help expand and retain the brand's creative partner community, ensuring lasting artistic impact.
• Deliver production excellence and fair pricing that serves Chow Tai Fook's best interests.

Key Responsibilities:

Branding

• Co-create closely with the brand’s Global Creative Director to shape the strategic direction and narrative of brand communications through the lens of art.
• Define a long-term artistic taste unique to Chow Tai Fook, establishing the brand as one that is widely recognized for its refined aesthetic sensibility and compelling storytelling.
• By keeping a close watch on artistic and cultural trends, holding regular discussions with agents and production companies, and conducting targeted research, they are able to recommend talents who are both artistically and financially suitable for each brief. They also help build a talent pool in close collaboration with the rest of the team.

Production

The Art Buyer:

• Organizes and aligns the schedules of the teams they oversee.
• Prepares estimates, negotiates costs (including fees and salaries) and related rights with selected vendors, following the Group's purchasing policy.
• Works closely with the Project Manager and creative lead to define project specifications.
• Briefs talents and production companies and monitors their output to ensure it meets the creative direction, budget, and timeline.
• In close coordination with the Project Manager, arranges product shipping, transports, and customs documentation.
• Depending on production needs, may handle casting, location scouting, studio or natural setting bookings, and travel, transport, or accommodation for teams.
• Travels to shoot locations within China and overseas.

Budget and Schedule Control

• The Art Buyer ensures the production budget is negotiated in Chow Tai Fook's best interest, working within the budget set by the Project Manager, and remains accountable for it until project completion.
• They present an overall production timeline to the Project Manager and take responsibility for keeping to it.
• They also issue the relevant purchase orders for each service.

Legal Administration

• The Art Buyer oversees the signing of copyright transfer agreements, which they may be asked to renegotiate on behalf of various departments. They also work with the legal team to draft contracts that cover different types of services.

Cross-functional Duties

• Keeps the project database up to date.
• Takes part in departmental cross-functional discussions, including international sourcing, subsidiary collaboration, and talent sharing.
• Trains and supports apprentices joining the team, and is comfortable delegating and working as part of a group.
• Shows a supportive, team-oriented attitude that goes beyond their own team's immediate priorities.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business or a related equivalent qualification.
• At least 10 years in a comparable role within a structured company, advertising agency, or photo studio, with a focus on fashion and beauty projects .
• Strong awareness of artistic trends and knowledge of both Chinese and international cultural networks
• Skilled at managing, coordinating, and organizing.
• Disciplined approach to schedule and budget management.
• Hands-on and versatile, capable of juggling multiple different projects at once.
• Team-oriented, flexible, curious, and open-minded.
• Proactive in offering ideas and solutions.
• Good listener, with the ability to motivate and coordinate diverse stakeholders.
• Fluent in English and Mandarin (spoken and written) is essential. French and Cantonese is a plus.
