You will join the Onfido Applied Science team as a research intern. The team consists of 20+ Applied Scientists located in London and Paris. We develop machine learning and computer vision models for the Onfido product lines, in particular fraud detection and data extraction on government IDs and biometrics data. You will work together with a team of scientist who will coach and train you during your internship.

About the Team

You’ll be joining the team leading Entrust's Identity portfolio, formerly known as Onfido (an AI-powered digital identity solution). Our technology helps businesses verify real identities using machine learning, ensuring secure remote customer onboarding. By assessing government- issued identity documents and facial biometrics using state-of-the-art machine learning, we provide companies with the assurance they need to operate securely while allowing people to access services quickly and safely.

Our Applied Scientist team consists of about twenty machine learning scientists. The team is supported by an ML Ops team that provides state-of-the-art tooling (including AWS, Encord, Ray, PyTorch Lightning and Weights & Biases). The Applied Science team works closely with product engineering to deploy models to serve our worldwide customer base.

Position Overview

We are looking for an Applied Science Intern in Paris, France to join our team and develop machine learning and computer vision models for the Entrust product lines, in particular fraud detection and data extraction on government IDs and biometrics data. You will work together with a team of scientist who will coach and train you during your internship.

We use state-of-the-art technology (deep learning, VLMs), own a large proprietary dataset of images and videos and use a multi-GPU cluster. We use standard frameworks (python, pytorch, tensorflow, dask, AWS). We impact production directly but also the machine learning community. We publish our work (1) (2) (3) and attend international conferences.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to research on Vision Language Models (VLMs) for fraud detection, face matching and document extraction.
• Work on unique, large-scale image and video datasets and train models on state-of-the-art GPUs.
• Impact products used by dozens of millions of users worldwide.
• Be mentored by a senior machine learning scientist to ensure success in the mission.
• Have the opportunity to publish and open-source work.
• Be part of a vibrant team of 15+ Applied Scientists based in Paris and London.

Basic Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Computer Science Master's or PhD degree or a related field.
• Proficiency with a modern deep learning framework (PyTorch or TensorFlow). 
• Ability to write research code in Python.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Strong willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

• Practical experience in deep learning, especially for computer vision tasks.
• Prototyping ideas from research papers.
• Working knowledge of cloud computing (preferably AWS) and tools such as git.
