Application Design Engineer - Power System Study
Objective
Power System Engineer with power system and protection application knowledge, holding a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution and at least 5 years of experience in electrical/power system engineering, including in consulting, EPC or other reputed companies in energy automation or power system field.
Skills and Experiences
- Perform power systems studies (load flow, short circuit, transient study, motor acceleration/reacceleration, harmonic analysis, islanding, ARC flash).
- Prepare protection relay setting calculations and OC & EF coordination.
- Proficient with protection applications: differential, distance, generator, motor.
- Perform equipment & cable sizing, insulation coordination study, transformer sizing, NGR & NGT sizing, CT sizing, capacitor sizing, breaker sizing, UPS, battery and battery charger sizing, CT & VT sizing, adequacy check, voltage dip/drop studies.
- Proven skillset in feasibility study, FEED analysis and proposal report formation.
- Knowledge of dynamic system stability and transient analysis.
- Familiar with IEC & ANSI standards.
- Experience with ETAP, PSCAD and other tools.
- Provide technical support to tendering team during bid by analyzing customer specifications, defining scope of work and engineering cost estimation.
- Prepare detailed study reports for customer approval.
- Familiarity and work experience with all ranges of SE numerical relays (ABB, Siemens, GE, SEL, others).
- Basic understanding of control and protection panel design drawing.
- Coordinate with internal or end customer for technical coordination, design & document approval.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal & external stakeholders during project execution and site commissioning.
- International project execution experience is an added advantage.
- Data center segment and OGP work experience is an added advantage.
- Familiar with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
Scope and Environment
- Works both autonomously and in teamwork, contributing to optimize and secure project or service teams' technical solution designs.
- Works for internal project and service technical teams (Engineering, Tendering, Sales, etc.) across all customer installation lifecycle, with direct interaction with external stakeholders/customers related to the application domain/subdomain.
Customer and Partner Relationships
Drives interactions with customer on technical topics related to the application domain. Understands customer specifications and needs related to the application domain/subdomain and translates/explains them to other project members; challenges those requirements versus SE available solutions & capabilities.
Internal & External Exposure: Influences and challenges internal project teams on the technical choices related to the application domain/subdomain and ensures convergence of the project team towards the best solution; delivers and presents results and argumentations (technical reports, presentations, etc.) to the project team. May participate in technical internal working groups related to the application domain/subdomain and in technical communication initiatives.
Project and Risk Management: Knows fundamentals of Project Management so that the role is aware of Cost/Quality targets related to the work, with a specific emphasis on time management & scheduling; detects, analyzes, challenges, alerts in case of any deviations from the standard scope of work related to the application domain/subdomain; issues progress reports to the project team; may contribute to project technical risk assessment meetings. In the application domain, may drive parallel technical activities to ensure convergence in the global solution to be delivered.
Technical knowledge and Engineering
Has solid knowledge and applies engineering best practices & standards, ensures all project members apply them correctly; has strong knowledge of the product & system offers (internal & external) related to the application domain/subdomain; has specific technical & application skills related to the application domain/subdomain; carries out detailed engineering work and provides associated reporting to project team members & leaders; knows and uses the methods & tools related to the application domain/subdomain.
Training and Coaching
Exchanges and shares knowledge with peers in the projects & services environment; gathers feedback from other engineers and managers; participates in training modules development or presentations about the technical application domain/subdomain.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Languages
- Good in English language and other languages are a plus.
Responsibilities in terms of quality and safety/security
- Implementation of international ISO 9001 Quality, ISO 18000 HSE and ISO14000 environmental standards.
- Fully respect safety standards during all project execution.
Qualifications
- B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech Electrical/Power System engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in relevant field.
