Job Description Summary
Processes and procedures related to the movement and shipment of GE goods across borders. Management. Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations. The customs function is strategic due to regulatory changes. As part of the central Customs & Transport team at head office, reporting to the Logistics & Customs Direction, you will be responsible for customs compliance across an international scope. With your regulatory expertise you will secure our declarative flows, strengthen risk management and improve competitiveness.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational support by giving advice and assistance to the Power Conversion division for import‑export activities, and drive initiatives to enhance process rigor.
- Perform regulatory monitoring and anticipate changes that may affect customs operations, especially classification, origin and customs value, and management of ECS/SDS.
- Use expertise to ensure compliance with customs procedures and secure customs data, particularly classification and origin data.
- Run internal training programs for the network of customs specialists and correspondents, and conduct awareness sessions for non‑customs staff.
- Manage daily operations with RDE and GE stakeholders to maintain constructive dialogue, and communicate with internal services when documents are incomplete or inconsistent.
- Ensure governance and smooth execution of project operations, provide effective communication, reporting and reviews, support pre‑customs clearance and during shipments, resolve problems and handle escalations related to SH questions and data requirements.
- Establish or update operational processes to track all third‑party managed activities and drive continuous process improvement.
- Provide advice and ensure implementation of customs regulations and other government authorities’ requirements for imports and exports in the region.
- Identify customs risk areas, evaluate associated internal controls, develop plans and operational procedures to mitigate and manage identified risks.
- Lead initiatives to ensure operational compliance for all import / export activities, meet regulatory requirements of each country, maintain GE’s capacity to participate in relevant special programs, and other related activities.
- Manage all operational performance indicators and lead strategic initiatives to improve cost, compliance and lead times.
- Contribute to the review and audit of RDE invoices, conduct root‑cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
- Act as liaison for escalation management and resolution of customs operation and compliance issues.
- Abide by HSE directives or raise awareness of their adherence.
- Report incidents immediately to the hierarchy and the HSE service.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5years of experience in the industry (energy, oil & gas preferred) or in a freight forwarder role, with deep expertise in customs regulation.
- Excellent understanding of the complexity of international flows and related challenges; adept at strategic customs thinking.
- Comfortable managing projects in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including customs administration.
- Proficient with the CONEX software and familiar with ERP systems such as SAP and MFGPro.
- Knowledge of regulations concerning controlled goods and how to incorporate them into decisions.
- International context; strong English language skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, communication, influence, adaptation and resilience skills; strong team spirit.
Desired Knowledge & Skills
- Professional customs certification or accreditation.
- Knowledge of free‑trade agreements and ATA carnet usage.
- Proven ability to manage multiple large‑scale projects, oversee resources, set clear objectives and deliverables.
- Ability to make informed decisions using knowledge, experience and intuition.
- Collaboration skills across all hierarchical levels.
