Airbus UpNext - Artificial Intelligence SW specialist (m/f)
Job Description
Location: Marignane, France (with travel to Toulouse)
Position Type: Full-Time
This position comes with a limited contract (CDI-C) linked to the end of flight tests milestone - December 2027
Following breakthroughs from VERTEX and other UpNext demonstrators, our new demo is pushing sense & avoidance technologies (LiDAR, advanced cameras, and GPS-denied robust positioning) to peak maturity. By merging AI with next-generation Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) and advanced autopilots, we are drastically reducing pilot workload and eliminating accidents in high-risk environments like mountain rescues and aerial work. The High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AI architectures you build here will directly influence the roadmap for the next generation of Airbus Commercial Single-Aisle aircraft and Airbus Defence & Space systems.
As our Artificial Intelligence & Embedded SW Specialist, you will bridge the gap between cutting-edge data science and rugged, real-time embedded systems.
Key Responsibilities
- AI Model Champion: Identify, train, fine-tune, and deploy AI models for environment perception, 3D point cloud processing, and computer vision (object detection, scene understanding, obstacle classification).
- Data Architect: Manage, clean, and structure video, camera, and LiDAR datasets to train high-performing models.
- Embedded Optimization: Adapt and optimize AI models to run flawlessly on onboard hardware under strict real-time constraints.
- Core Software Development: Write, maintain, and optimize robust C/C++ components for sensor data acquisition, communication interfaces, and demonstrator logic.
- V&V and Integration: Own the hardware/software integration, design robust testing strategies, and drive features through to successful flight-test validation.
- Technical Strategist: Bring your voice to Agile sprint sessions to filter technical ideas based on feasibility, scalability, and maturation.
What you bring
- Engineering degree (or equivalent) with an innovative edge ideally combining an aerospace background with computer science, AI, or applied mathematics.
- AI & Perception: Solid grounding in Machine Learning/Computer Vision applied to image processing, video streams, and 3D point cloud processing.
- Embedded Software: Mastery of C/C++ for embedded systems, including data processing, interfaces, tooling, and debugging.
- Experience with camera and LiDAR sensor application.
- Hands-on experience with Hailo AI accelerators and deploying models onto dedicated edge AI hardware.
- Experience working within an Agile/Scrum framework .
- Negotiation level in French and English is required.
- Flexibility and capability of adapting to changing environments.
- Ability to self-manage in a non-hierarchical environment, understanding what the organization needs, acting and making decisions accordingly.
- A Continuous Learner and Team Player mindset: approach technical challenges with humility and a constant desire to optimize performance and value transparency, empathy, and mutual care.
What you get
- The unique opportunity to work on a high-visibility, cross-divisional project with real‑world impact across Airbus Helicopters, Commercial, and Defence & Space.
- A dynamic, fast-paced “startup‑like” environment backed by the stability and resources of a global aerospace leader.
- A collaborative culture where technical audacity is celebrated, and having fun is part of the job description.
