Owkin is an AI company on a mission to solve the complexity of biology. It is building the first Biology Super Intelligence (BASI) by combining powerful biological large language models, multimodal patient data, and agentic software. At the heart of this system is Owkin K, an AI copilot and its new LLM fine‑tuned on biology called Owkin Zero, used by researchers, clinicians, and drug developers to better understand biology, validate scientific hypotheses, and deliver better diagnostics and therapies faster.

About the role

As an AI Engineer Intern, you will contribute to building the data pipelines that fuel the leading Agentic AI product for biomedical researchers by optimising workflows, integrating new biological datasets, and developing new features. You will work on a real‑time system that integrates LLMs, tool‑calling, and interactive UI elements, ensuring seamless engagement with complex domain‑specific data.

Responsibilities

• Onboard on Owkin’s agentic data pipelines, K ecosystem, and learn to manipulate proprietary biological datasets.
• Grasp a firm understanding of the data production pipeline, identify bottlenecks and potential improvements.
• Address user feedback from biomedical teams, pharma clients, students, researchers and others to continuously enhance K.
• Improve developer experience: build manual workflows (documentation & make commands), CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions), orchestrated workflows (Airflow), dashboards (Grafana) to elevate engineering standards.
• Experiment with innovative improvements and proofs of concept on sub‑components of the product.
• Make meaningful contributions to the codebase that directly impact data production/integration into K.
• Define and implement cross‑modality complex agentic workflows involving biological data.
• Write and review high‑quality code respecting industry standards (CI/CD workflows, linting, typing).

Qualifications

• Master student or equivalent level (ideally end‑of‑study internship).
• Driven by impact – excited to empower biomedical researchers with intuitive AI‑driven tools.
• Strong collaborative skills with an open, pragmatic mindset; thrives in multidisciplinary environments.
• Clear and effective communicator who can translate technical complexity into actionable decisions for the team.
• Proven track record of agentic AI or data engineering projects.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
• Experience with Python, Airflow, Grafana, GitHub.
