Job Description
Airbus Defence and Space is looking for an AI Decision Making Research Engineer (f/m) to join our Technology Labs team based in Boulogne-Billancourt (Paris), France.
As an expert in artificial intelligence and decision methods, you will be involved in R&D work aimed at supporting the provision of novel decision‑making tools for all domains of interest using Artificial Intelligence and operations research techniques.

This work will primarily be conducted at a specific site in Boulogne-Billancourt. The role is for those interested in solving complex problems in decision‑making settings across different domains and who are eager to tackle complex and innovative technical challenges.
You will be integrated into an engineering team responsible for designing and developing future defense systems capable of exceeding our clients' expectations.

Your challenges
- Contribute to the team's research, architecture and projects.
- Lead projects within the team.
- Design, develop, test and integrate software application modules into the laboratory's platforms.
- Integrate basic AI and optimisation solutions for demonstration or proof‑of‑concept purposes.
- Help integrate solutions on customer premises subject to specific constraints or existing systems.
- Contribute to the evolution of the laboratory environment, networking and recognition both internally within the Airbus group and externally.
- Lead the writing and publication of scientific articles and patents.
- Ensure continuous technological watch.
- Collaborate with academic partners and supervise PhD students.
Your profile
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience.
- Programming languages: C++, Python, Java.
- Mathematical programming/constraint programming solutions: Gurobi, OR‑Tools.
- Environment: Linux Ubuntu / CentOS, Mac OS X.
- Virtualisation: VMware, Docker.
- Development environment: Git, VS Code.
- Mathematical programming / optimisation (continuous, combinatorial, etc.) and meta‑heuristics (evolutionary algorithms, etc.).
- Reinforcement learning and other statistical methods (Bayesian networks, Markov chains, etc.).
- Strong knowledge in algorithms, data structures, and graph theory.
- Software development and software architecture.
- Machine learning models including supervised, non‑supervised and time‑series forecasting (SVN, XGBoost, GNN, VAE, GAN, LSTM, ARIMA, LLMs).
- Computer communications and telecommunication knowledge, including satellite communication, softwarised networks, protocol stacks.
- Knowledge of military operations, NATO doctrine and related concepts.
- Advanced spoken and written English required.
You must hold French nationality in accordance with IGI 1300 of 30 November 2011 (Article 65), as this position requires a security clearance or eligibility for a clearance by the recognised authorities.
