Adjunct Faculty, Environmental Science & Technology
This position is responsible for preparing and delivering Environmental Science & Technology coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline‑appropriate ways, reflecting a commitment to student success and creating an inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and teach courses in Environmental Science & Technology to a multicultural student population based on the department’s approved learning outcomes, using instructional strategies appropriate to community‑college students and discipline standards.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
- Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
- Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, or executive vice chancellor.
Technology Requirements
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
- Proficiency in an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (e.g., posting office hours, syllabi).
Professional Standards
- Appropriate use of the college’s learning management system.
- Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
- Participate in graduation, assemblies, and other official college functions.
- Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve retention and success.
- Attend and participate in college‑wide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
- Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
- Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
Required Education
- Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geology, Geological Sciences, Wildlife Science, Wildlife Ecology, Biology, Oceanography/Marine Science, Geography, Hydrology, Environmental or Water Resource Management, Engineering (Environmental, Agricultural, or Civil), Agronomy, or Limnology, or
- Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in the disciplines listed above.
- No substitution for educational requirements.

- Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about teaching environmental science.
- Commitment to establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff representing multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Dynamic, non‑traditional instructional delivery methods to teach students of varying proficiency levels and backgrounds.
- Strong ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment.
Working Conditions
- Work is routinely performed in a classroom or laboratory setting.
- Subject to standing, walking, sitting, and reaching for extended periods of time.
