About the Role
The NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) seeks a well‑rounded, focused individual to serve as an Accounting Technician Payroll in the Fiscal Section. The primary purpose is to calculate wages and deductions, prepare related reports, advise employees on compensation inquiries, and interpret HR policies related to payroll.
Key Responsibilities
- Process payroll accurately, including time and attendance, wages, and deductions.
- Maintain accurate payroll data and prepare fiscal and compliance reports.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding pay, benefits, and compensation questions.
- Interpret and apply state HR policies affecting compensation, leave, and overtime.
- Act as liaison between agency HR staff, employees, and the Office of State Controller (OSC); generate standard reports using the Integrated HR Payroll System.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution plus two years of accounting experience; or high‑school diploma/GED plus four years of accounting experience (or equivalent combination).
- Working knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and practices.
- Experience with financial systems and software packages, including budget codes and inter‑funds.
- Proficiency with the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS) and the Integrated HR-Payroll System (formerly Beacon).
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply financial record regulations and state HR policies.
Physical Requirements
Typical work schedule: Monday‑Friday; 8:00 am‑5:00 pm. Qualified applicants must pass a criminal background investigation and a drug screening test.
