Job Description

Location: Saint Martin, Toulouse. Contract: Internship - 3 months.

Job Title: Cryogenic Test Bench Architect Trainee (m/f).

As a Cryogenic Test Bench Architect Trainee (m/f), you will join a multidisciplinary, international team dedicated to developing an advanced superconducting and cryogenic powertrain. It is intended to enable high‑power electric propulsion in liquid hydrogen aircraft. The powertrain incorporates a superconducting direct‑current network with protective features, a cryogenic motor drive, a superconducting electric motor, and a cryogenic cooling system, and the development takes place in a dynamic, stimulating environment alongside global partners.

In preparation for the development of a new superconducting motor, the team is designing a new test facility to characterize and validate the superconducting coils, the core component of the motor.

During this 3‑month internship you will support both the testing and motor teams as they develop a cryogenic helium cooling test bench. The bench will be used to characterize superconducting coils and the overall system. Your responsibilities will first involve gathering and documenting the technical requirements for the test bench based on the team's specific needs, then assisting with the thermal and mechanical design of the cryogenic vacuum chamber.

We are looking for someone passionate about aeronautics, science, and technology, who enjoys making and testing breakthrough technologies on concrete demonstrations, who thrives on difficult challenges, and who thinks about "how things can be done" rather than "if they can be done".

Responsibilities

  • Observation of test sessions and analysis of results to understand the need and identify improvement needs.
  • Breakdown high‑level functional needs into detailed technical requirements.
  • Structure requirements basis taking into consideration test engineer experience on current test bench. Draft the comprehensive technical requirement document (TRD) / statement of work for the test bench.
  • Participate in test bench architecture definition covering instrumentation, facility, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Participate in preliminary design phases, including thermodynamics and electric computation / simulation (P&IDs, critical component selection, preliminary sizing).

Requirements

Education: student in an Engineering School or Master’s program, specializing in Energy Systems, Thermal Engineering, Process Engineering.

Technical Skills

  • Instrumentation / systems engineering and test rig design.
  • Foundation in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics is a strong plus.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and curiosity, essential for gathering information from various domain experts.
  • Proactive, autonomous, and problem‑solving mindset.

Preferred start date: June 2026.
